Please excuse this question if it seems overly simple.
All I have read about using the WhiBal cards states that you pick on the gray card (light gray with RAW images) with the eyedropper tool to set the whitebalance in C1. Why then include a white card and a black card? Are these used for brightness or contrast somehow? If not, what is their purpose?

Note: An answer is in the thread "How is WhiBal Used?". Had to do some digging to find it.
