Please excuse this question if it seems overly simple.

All I have read about using the WhiBal cards states that you pick on the gray card (light gray with RAW images) with the eyedropper tool to set the whitebalance in C1. Why then include a white card and a black card? Are these used for brightness or contrast somehow? If not, what is their purpose?

Dave...

Note: An answer is in the thread "How is WhiBal Used?". Had to do some digging to find it.

Don't know about the black card, but I use the white card for setting my custom white balance on my Canon 300D. Just hold it in front of the lens, take a shoot and then follow the instructions in your camera manual on how to use that shot to set your custom WB. Works well!

The Gray Cards are slightly more neutral than the White Card (the nature of the beast), so I would use the light Gray card for setting a custom WB in the camera. And for Nikon I would use the Dark gray card.
