View Full Version : "Inserted Media is Not Empty" error

My first attempt to use AC with my old external parallel-cable burner on my laptop was successfull. (however it was slow and doesn't have buffer under-run error protection)

I have since purchased a new, faster 48x burner which came with Roxio CD Creator 5.1 (now updated to 5.3.2) and connects to my laptop with a firewire.

Now, every time I get to the BURN stage of the archive process it doesn't recognise my blank CD's, and I get the error message "Please insert empty writable media before continuing".

I have tried different types of CD's.
I have tried reinstalling CD Creator.
I have tried closing CD Creator while AC is running.
I have tried to use my old burner again.
All have failed.

I presume this is a setting or conflict problem, but I am at a loss as to what to do next.

Help!
David

Probably you have DirectCD enabled. This formats the CD as soon as it is inserted and renders the CD as no longer blank. So DirectCD should be disabled when running AC (or if you do not plan to use it, remove it from your PC).

If this is not it, it could be a timing problem that is discussed here..

Please let me know what happens..

Good luck..

Smart Michael.

You were right. I had a timing problem.

If I wait for the flashing light on the CD Burner to stop before clicking on "OK", then the set burns without problems.

I have one more problem to sort out with large archive sets, that I will send as a separate post.

Happy David

Thanks for the additional info. We will take care of the timing issues in V1.0.

I think many of us clicked with frustration on the "OK" button whilst mumbling under our breath about stupid computers that insisted that the CD wasn't empty before realising that 10 seconds of patience was required.

We should and will handle these types of situations. Each drive has different timings and responds differently to commands. That is part of our pre-release philosophy. offer you a great deal, and we get needed feedback so that the V1.0 release can be as good as possible.

Thanks for your help..
