View Full Version : AC Freezes computer when splitting folders

Hi

Everything seems to work well as long as I archive only to a single disk or make sure that each folder fits within a single disk when archiving to multiple disks.

If I go for an archive that generates a message something like "To complete this archive you will need to split folders" and I click the button for Split folders or Split All I have problems.

It all seems to work OK until I click the Write Disks button then the hourglass appears and AC claims it is preparing the disk - forever!

Any attempt to CTRL+ALR+DEL to kill AC then destablises the machine forcing a re-boot.

OS is Win 98 SE, using Prelease B.

Thanks

Sorry to hear about the problem..

There are no known issues involving the splitting of folders. I do it in every test that I do, so there must be something else going on here.

I will email to you to discuss further..

Latest update:

I installed the newer version of AC you emailed me but it didn't solve the problem.

However, I have a dual boot machine, so I booted up Win2000 instead of win 98se and tried AC with this OS. It worked fine!

Whatever the problem is I can work around it by using Win2000 (which I have been meaning for some time to use for image editing anyway). However, I would still like it to work under 98 if possible. Is there any additional info I can send that might help diagnose the problem?

Now that we know that it is isolated to W98 (or at least your install of it) we can look into it further. I was checking on W2K.

Thanks for the update...and yes...the faster you can dump W98 the better. W2K and WXP are much superior systems. Also the NTFS file system is much improved over FAT32.

Happy New year!!
