I'm having a problem using the WhiBal with noisy high ISO images in a raw workflow with Adobe Camera Raw. There is so much color noise in the raw image that I get very different white balance adjustments depending on where I click on the light gray card in the image. Adjusting the color noise slider to the high end didn't seem to help. What is the best technique for handling these noisy images?

Make sure that you are clicking when in 100% view (double click the magnifier button). Then you have to click around to find a best spot. You might also try shooting the WhiBal shots slightly out of focus, but in truth I am not sure that in this case it will improve things., In general it is a good idea, however.

let us know how you make out. Thanks..

Also in those situations, it is perfectly legal to set the iso lower to take the WhiBal shots. Since the blur of a lower shiutter speed will not mater you should be able to do this if you have time. The color of light is what the WhiBal is measuring, and unless the camera is non-linear at different ISOs in terms of color this will work fine. Just until you prove it shoot at your shooting ISO and lower. I know that some cameras are not linear at different ISOs in terms of exposure, but I have not recently taken a look at color.

great question!
