Hi,

I just discovered this product by chance on the web and I like the idea of it. Just a quick ( & maybe dumb ) question, can I still use a CPL with WhiBal ?? Will I have to make sure that the CPL is at the same angle when taking the WhiBal shot and and actual shot ??

Thanks

Ted

The WhiBal will neutralize the light taking into account the CPL, so all will be properly balanced. I would do an experiment and take a few Whibal shots turning the CPL. And then check that all the Whibal readings are the same. if they are not then you will have to make sure that the Whibal shot was taken at the same rotation as the real shot. But that is easy. Just take the Whibal shot after the real shot.

BTW...I assume that CPL is circular polarizer :>) If not...ignore the above :>)O

Hi Michael,

Yes, I do mean circular polarizer, would be great if you can that experiment. I have a habit of taking multiple shoots with the circular polarizer in various angles and pick the best one when I get home. Just a little more of a problem if I have to take a Whibal shot at the various angle as well.

Thanks

Ted,

Better if you do the experiment on your CPL. Just take 4 WhiBal shots in the same light (best on a tripod), and do a click WB on one of the shots. Then apply that WB to the others, and check the RGB values. You should find R=G=B +/- 1 or 2 if the polarizer has no effect on the WB which I would expect. Position the WhiBal so there is no reflection even without the CPL. Use the stickers as a reflection guide.

Please report back. Thanks...
