View Full Version : Can't find full size images after archiving

I am making up an archive of 1000 images that seem to all fit on a single CD. I am using the AC default settings.
The archive comes up with the thumbnails OK, and when I click on a thumbnail, I get a somewhat larger image OK. However, when I then click on "File", a new IE6 window opens up with the standard IE error message "File cannot be displayed".
Any help will be appreciated.

Sorry about the problem..
When you click on the folder button, does the folder that contains the archived file open? First let's check that out, and then we can see what is up with the file button.
You can also access the files from Windows explorer in the folder called Source_D, where "D" is the drive that the files were originally on on your hard drive.
I hope that this is a helpful start..

When I look at the directory tree in AC setup, there are four folders containing all the images. When each folder is opened, all the image .JPG files are listed and checked.
When the CD is created and I go looking for the images on the CD, I can find the four folders listed in three locations:
T_SourceC, V-SourceC and Source_C.
The CD is in Drive D:
However, I am unable to open up any of the folders using Windows Explorer from the CD.

Further to my last message, I stand corrected. I can in fact open the image folders in Source_C and I can access the image files. They are all full-sized.
In T & V, I can open those too and they are smaller and I assume these are the thumbnails and the next size larger.

Yes.
The Source_C has the real images(with their original directory structure), and in the ACSys folder are other folders that contain the thumbnails and viewing images. So you are correct.

OK, so acknowledging this, why doesn't the "File" button work? I've tried several disks on three computers with the same result.

There are several variables involved here, so let's nail them down.
Can you pleaase let me know the browser and version that you are using, and also some example paths of files that do not work in this way. Certain characters in filenames or paths can cause certain browsers to file on this command. All we are asking to do is for the browser to access a link when we hit the FILE button.
If the file is a known type to the browser, then it will open the file...if it is an unknown type it should present a download dialog box. If it displays a page not found, then it means that the link is not valid. Since the folder button works we can assume that the link is valid (the file and folder links are almost identical in terms of the path), so it could be the filename issue.
We are subject to the whims of the various browsers, each one different. IE does not like # signs in the filename, Netscape is fine with it. Things like this.
So let's take a look at the filename/paths that do not work.
Thanks for your help. I hope that the explanation explained things a little more for your understanding of what is going on.

Aha! The problem is solved and I thank you very much!
I had a # in the directory names. I took it out, and all is well. I'm using IE6.
Thanks again.

No patience required. If all support groups responded as fully and as promptly as you do, the world would be a better place.
Keep up the good work.
