View Full Version : v2.0B1 - Failure at end of burning...

Nestor

HW: Dell 4400 1.8Ghz 512Mb
ADS Firewire cage on HP 200i drive
Firewire Maxtor (where images are)

SW: XP (not SP1)
AC v2.0B1

100% repeatable:
1. Process images to get a set of 3DVD's
2. Burn fails at the end with error popup:
Device Error 1054: An NT disc I/O operation failed
Error closing DVD+R Session/Border
Error Sense Data: SENSE KEY: FF ASC: 4 ASCQ: D3
The event log stated that there was an error paging to the CDROM (aka DVD)

I've burned four disks with the above error, rebooting in between.

Meantime, I *can* burn with the HP (aka Veritas) software.

I should note that the last two disks seem to be completely readable, however.

Hi, we have seen this before. It seems to be very related to system configuration issues. There is an option on our preference dialog called "Use ASPI". You might try burning with this option on. (you must restart Archive Creator after turning it on). If you do not have ASPI support installed on your computer, please see the section on ASPI in our FAQs.....

I was going to update the firmware and, if that didn't work, enable burn logging to see if that would help you.

I have some friends who are *quite* knowledgeable... their response to my question on this was:

"My guess is that they are not getting a real sense/asc/ascq from the device. Probably they are sending the command *prior* to this one incorrectly or with an insufficient timeout, and it's probably the SYNC_CACHE command. Then, this one fails, and they attempt to interpret sense info that is uninitialized. (they probably didn't zero this buffer before sending it)."

Whether that helps or not I don't know.

I'll try the firmware, then ASPI, then burnlog. I'll let y'all know what works...

All information can be helpful. Thanks for sending it. We will examine their points..

Upgraded to latest HP firmware 1.51. Results were the same. CDBurnlog.txt is:

Now to try ASPI...

Nestor

I installed the drivers from Adaptec. Upon reboot, their ASPICHK program indicated I had everything up and running.

AC set into ASPI mode. Quit AC. Restart AC. Go to Burn page.
Now, only my CD is available, not my DVD.

Contents of your test utility on my drive E: (DVD) is:

I decided to play electrician. I removed the HP200i from the ADS 1394 enclosure and replace the internal CD with it. So now, the HP200i is INTERNAL and uses the internal ATAPI drivers.

I set AC to NOT use ASPI and I've been buring like mad.

Fabulous product!

Thanks for the info, I am glad you are working and sorry for all the issues. We will continue to investigate why there was a problem when you had your drive on the firewire bus....

I was an interested in knowing if a solution to this problem was found, as it appears I have the same issue with a new HP 300e external (firewire) burner.

Here's the message I've received each of the four times I tried to use AC v2.0 beta 4 to burn a DVD:

An unrecoverable error has occurred. This Disc in the archive set will need to be re-written. After you are finished writing all disks, please select this CD (via the check boxes to the left of the Disc Icons) and attempt the write again.

Device Error 1054: A NT disc I/O operation failed
Error closing DVD+R Session/Border
Error Sense Data: SENSE KEY: FF ASC: 4 ASCQ: D3

Using the Simple Backup application that came with the device works properly.

Any suggestions or other info I can provide?

Please read above about the ASPI layer that is usually the key to this problem. The other thing to do is to set the media wait time option to 30 or more and see if that corrects the problem.

Let me know what you find....the media wait time might solve the problem for you.

Hi Peter:

Thanks for the reply.

I've followed the instructions for installing the ASPI drivers - AFAIK. When I run aspick.exe, it told me that v4.71.2 of ASPI32.SYS and WNASPI32.DLL have been installed, but it did not install any version of the other two files: WOWPOST.EXE and WINASPI.DLL.

When I open AC now, with 'use ASPI' checked, the program tells me it can't find any compatible drives.

What's next?

Rich

Go to the preferences page and set the media wait time to 30 or more seconds. Then try the burn again. Many drives and the drivers for them often report that the drive is done burning before it acually is. This will add a delay before we continue with our process. Let me know if this helps.

Sorry about the aspi issue, I forgat that you have a firewire drive (as do I) and aspi doesnt work with that. Uncheck the use aspi, start the app again and try the media wait time.

I did as you suggest (increase wait time, uncheck ASPI) after the driver install failed.

No gain. I still get the same error message.

I checked the DVD, though, after the error message and abort of burn process, and it appears it does receive the data and close itself out so that it can be read later. So it works, but not satisfactorily. And I don't know if it will continue a multi-disk archive session...

OK, Let me escilate this with our burning library vendor and see if I can get some more info about this...

Rich, I would like to send you some new software to test and see if this issue is corrected in it. Can you send me your email address to ac@fsdi.biz

Thanks.
