I have a question with the different EXIF data representation of Canon RAW & THM files in the HTML index:

The EXIF data of a Canon CRW file looks like:

Serial # 1080839
Make Canon
Model Canon EOS D60
Owner blabla
Image Time February 20, 2003 19
Config CRW
Aperture f/6.34
Shutter 0.31 mS
Exposure Compensation 0.00
Flash Fired No
Self Timer 20 mS
Focus Normal

The EXIF data of a Canon THM file looks like:

Make Canon
Model Canon EOS D60
Orientation Upper Left (1)
X Resolution 180.00
Y Resolution 180.00
Resolution Units Inches
Exposure Time 1/1
F Number 9.00
ISO Speed 100
Date/Time 2003
Date Digitized 2003
Compressed Bits Per Pixel 9.00
Shutter Speed 1/1.25
Aperture f/9.00
Exposure Bias 0.00
Max Aperture f/5.60
Metering Mode Vendor Unique (6)
Flash Fired No
Focal Length (mm) 300.00
Color Space sRGB
Focal Plane X Res 3443.95
Focal Plane Y Res 3442.02
Focal Plane Units Meter
Sensing Method One chip color area

If I select "Hide THM file if matching file exists in Folder" in the AC preferences, only the (ugly) EXIF data of the RAW file is shown in the HTML index, but not the full and fine (see Aperture vs. F Number) EXIF data of the THM file. I have tried the EXIF data of both RAW and THM files with YarcPlus, they are not different.
Is the different EXIF representation a bug or a feature?
Would it be possible to show the "better" EXIF data in the HTML Index when hiding the THM files?

Thanks for answers and regards
Ebe

It is neither a bug nor a feature. It is just what is. Almost the same data exits in the THM and the CRW but in the CRW it exists in the maker note data and in the THM it also exists as JPEG EXIF data because the THM file is in fact a JPEG file with a THM extension.

In order for YarcPlus to get the full EXIF data from the CRW file it must go through special means. This is OK because it is a Canon Specific program. Archive Creator is generic and does not have the knowledge to gain the full EXIF from the CRW file.

Your suggestion to get the EXIF from the THM if it exists is the best solution, and we have it on our list of enhancements. We will try to incorporate it into a future release.

Thanks for your feedback.
