Michael,
First I want to thank you for your WhiBal. I ordered it last Thursday and received it Saturday. Very good service and the product is very professional.
I just calibrated ACR in PS CS3 beta to my Canon 30D using the MacBeth Color Checker. I like the results. Is there a way to save those settings to Lightroom? If so how?
Thanks again.
Jonathan

I do not know. I would suggest posting to the Adobe forum. I would suspect that the data is in a file in the preferences area within the program folders. You might just be able to transport this file to Lightroom, but I would certainly cvheck with Adobe first. I will see if I can find out.

Michael,
I figured it out. If you import the "target" image (PSD) after the calibration in PS the embedded information is in the file. Then just save that information as a preset. It works. If you look at "camera calibration" in Lightroom it states "embedded". Cool Huh?
Thanks for your help. Feel free to pass this on.

Michael - first of all congrats on a really good instructional DVD. My copy arrived in the post today (here in Germany) and I am really impressed at the speed of delivery and the quality of video for such a modest price. Had I known the price has been subsequently reduced plus a 15% discount when a WhiBal is ordered at the same time I would have hung on a week or so. Oh well, my tough luck.
Anyway, to the point of this post. I've never heard of this Camera Calibration thing before and I wonder if you could explain in simple terms what it is, or at least where I can find out more info on the subject - it sounds rather interesting.
Thanks
PS No matter how good Lightroom eventually turns out to be I for one will mourn the demise of RSP - it's still on my PC although I guess it's time I weened myself of it. :-))

Which file contains the embedded information and into which Lightroom file did you copy it? I took a quick shot yesterday using my G5 of something that I wanted to dispose of on ebay. I used this opportunity to experiment and learn a bit in Lightroom. In 'camera calibration' it said embedded and there is no apparent way of being able to change this unless I am missing something. Could you explain further please?

I think there is too much jumping to the calibrate tab. If your image files need adjustment then adjust them using the normal tools. And that includes White balance. Only, and only if you find you need to make the SAME EXACT color adjustment on each picture (for a specific camera model) should you delve into the calibrate panel. And you must first make sure that you have properly White Balanced using WhiBal or Gretag card. You DO NOT want to adjust for color in the calibrate panel unless it is a camera "defect" (bad color) that you are unhappy with, and/or you disagree with Adobe's color rendering for a specific camera. 95% of people should NOT use the calibrate panel..IMO YMMV

Having done some research of my own and seen some of the results I too am coming round to the idea that unless, as you say the camera is way out, it's not really worth the effort.
One final question OT I know - but as and when additions/modifications are made to your current DVD will you notify people who have already purchased or will we need to keep our own eyes peeled for info as to when and if it's released?

The DVD will stand as is for a while at least. If I add a new series of chapters to the LR series I will send an email to all purchasers of Vol I, potentially with a discounted buy-in to the new and larger DVD. For now I am worining to finish up the RAW without FUD DVD. Thanks..
