View Full Version : Combining DVD and CDR?

I am about to backup some images to DVD-R's. I will need 5 DVD to do so, but my last disk (disk 5) only will take up 650 megs. Can I use a regular CDR for my last disc so as not to waste and entire DVD?
If I do have to use a DVD for all discs, can I then add to disc 5 on my next backup?
Thanks,
John Lega

John,
No the Archive Session is either DVD or CD. It cannot be mixed for a number of technical reasons.
My suggestion would be to use a DV-RW for the Last disc, and then also include the files from disc 5 in your next archive set. So temporarily they would be on the RW, and then in the next set. But of course the Index will include the disc 5 files so that could get confusing.
Alternately you could reduce the set to 4 discs, and include the other files in the next Archive set.
Other than that, it may pay to just use the real DVD-R for disc 5 to have the archive set that you want.
You would have to look in the tree in the process page (or in the index) to see where the disc 5 began and start the next archive with those files from you HD.
Sorry there is no perfect solution.

Michael,
Thanks for the quick response. You offer some good suggestions. It may not be a "perfect solution" but it's the closest I've seen to it.
Thanks for the program and the wonderful support.
Regards,
John
