Hi Paul,

I, along with a lot of people, have chosen the Sony DRU-500a, based on the fact that it supports multiple formats..

CD-R/RW
DVD-R/RW
DVD+R/RW

So whatever becomes the standard, this drive supports it. Also Sony has posted firmware upgrades so the support has been good. I have the IDE version and my partner Peter has the Firewire version. Both of us have had no issues or problems with the drive. It has performed flawlessly.

I am sure that there are other good drives out there, but this one is one that I can speak of from personal experience of buring a LOT of DVDs in the testing of AC (and my partner as well).

We have burned all 6 media types with no issues.

I can not speak to comparisons with other drives. Maybe some of the other AC users will chime in..
