View Full Version : help w tutorials disk requested

I'm having trouble viewing the tutorials disk on my home computer, a brand new iMac desktop. The extras disk is working fine, it's just the tutorials disk that is giving me problems.

I'm hoping someone in the forum and offer a suggestion to why I cannot view...and a solution.

Safari does open and I can view the Welcome and Intro portions of the CD only. All other sections show no content "0:00/0:00". The download bar scrolls endlessly but never brings content to view for the other sections.

It will work however, on my PC at work...just not my home Mac where I need to view the disk.

At work on the PC the "click_to_view_DVD.html" and "click_to_view_DVD_no_intro.html" files have IE icons next to them.

However on my iMac those two files have "icons" that are small virtually all black square windows...they don't appear to be icons associated with a browser. They look to be thumbnail snapshots of a computer screen w one corner "dog-earred" and a horizontal gray spot in the center bottom of the window - looks like it could be some blurry text.

Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on and why I cannot view these CD sections?

Any advice is greatly appreciated...thank you.

Judy

Hi Judy,

As we discussed the other day, there is no "issue" with playing the movies on the Mac. I believe that you heard it playing in the background. The icons on the Mac are Safari icons on my iMac. And all works perfectly. I think the fact that those 2 files are not Safari icons on your system are a clue, but I am not a mac maven and not the one to trouble shoot. I assume that you have the latest flash plug-in installed. It has to be the case if you can see and hear the intro videos.

The other thing that might give us a clue is to copy the contents of the DVD onto your hard drive and see if it works from there.

What OS are you running. I am running 10.4.11 on this Mac. I can try it on Leopard if you are running that. I have NOT tried that yet. I just got a MacBook Air, and that has Leopard on it.

Sorry for the problems, but no other Mac user has had a problem, so I suspect it is some kind of compatability issue with your specific machine or configuration.

Hi Michael,

Since I have a new iMac, as i stated in my initial post, it comes loaded w Leopard - as all new macs do. The iMac is the 24" 2.8 GHZ version. The OS is 10.5.1. Please try it on Leopard. Perhaps this could be the problem.

I don't want to download on my computer just yet if the issue is the OS version...because obviously then it would not work that way either.

Please try it on your MacBook Air and let me know if it works...or not.

Thanks,

Judy

Hi Judy,

OK...Here is the scoop when running on Leopard on the MacBook Air. So just based on 1 machine, but with same symptoms as yours.

Problem is only with 2 movies. # 2 and #7 in Section both in Section 1. All other movies work fine. So for now avoid those 2 movies.

Best workaround is to copy the DVD onto the Hard Disk into its own folder. Then all will work as designed.

Thanks for the help and sorry for the problem. Please let us know if you have the same experience. Thanks..

Copying the DVD contents to your hard disk gives the benefits of faster access time, leading to less choppy playback, and also means you can store the DVD in a safe place to avoid scratches/damage in use as its no longer required for viewing.

Yes LanChop, good additional reasons to copy to the HD for current viewings, and then delete and save the DVD.

Thanks..
