Keeping settings/catalogue when upgrading

I note that if we wish to upgrade to the beta 2 version of Archive Creator, it is recommended to uninstall version 1 first. What happens to our personal settings and archive catalogue + thumbnails when upgrading - is this lost? Will the CD catalogue be the only catalogue + thumbnails that don't get lost as a result of an upgrade?

The personal settings are kept (XML files).

The feature that allows you to "save" the Photo Indexes on the hard drive after you process the next Archive set was only added in Version 2.0 (called the Master Index) so the only way to keep the current index is to manually move it, or it can be "retrieved" from the CD back onto the Hard drive with a function within V2.0.
